Eau Claire curlers compete on national level

Several local curlers have participated in the United States Junior Curling National Championships, including gold medalist Jenna Burchesky who will be competing at the World Junior Championships in Scotland this coming March.

Jeff Thompson, manager of the Eau Claire Curling Club, says that they see the biggest spike in membership following the winter olympics. This year’s games in PyeongChang, South Korea begin this Friday. In addition to the men’s and women’s divisions, mixed doubles curling will be making its debut as an official olympic event this year.

Burchesky says her future goal is to compete in the olympics and represent her country on the the world’s biggest international stage.
