Blugold Media is an independent educational resource about student journalism and campus media. We publish clear, practical guides for the students who report, write, and edit while they study — the people learning the craft on deadline, often with little formal training and even less budget. Everything here is free to read and written to be genuinely useful.
Strong student journalism makes campuses more accountable and gives young writers skills that last a lifetime. Yet much of the best guidance on how to do it well is scattered, jargon-heavy, or locked behind coursework. Our mission is to gather that knowledge and explain it plainly, so any student — whatever their school or background — can find a straight answer to "how do I actually do this?"
Every guide starts with a real question student journalists face: how to structure a news story, verify a claim, run a fair interview, understand where the legal lines are, or pitch an editor. We research each topic against established, credible authorities in the field — professional bodies, journalism-training institutes, and press-rights organizations — and we cite those sources so you can read further and check our work. Where a subject touches areas like media law, we keep the guidance general and educational and point you to specialists rather than pretending to give advice we are not qualified to give.

Blugold Media is produced by a small, independent editorial team who care about student media and have spent time in and around campus newsrooms as writers and editors. We publish under the Blugold Media name rather than individual bylines because these guides are a collective, continually updated effort rather than one person's opinion. We are not sponsored by, and do not speak for, any school or organization.
You can trust our guides because they are transparent about their sources, honest about their limits, and open to correction. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Just as importantly, we want to be clear about what we are not: Blugold Media is not a university, a student union, or an official campus newspaper, and we are not affiliated with any real institution or its publications. We do not represent or claim any connection to any specific college or its official media; any resemblance to the name of an existing organization is coincidental. This is an independent resource, free to use, built to help students do good work.
